Change Microsoft System Configuration Settings
SysMenu.dll file is set to load automatically during system startup interval. When a problem arises your computer displays an error message.
For Windows 8.1/ 8
- Press Windows Key + X, select Task Manager.
- Click the More details link.
- Click Startup tab.
- Right-click SysMenu.dll file, select Disable.
- Exit out of the screen. Reboot.
For Windows 7/ Vista
- Press Windows Key + R simultaneously.
- In the new dialog that appears, type “MSCONFIG” and click OK.
- Click Startup tab.
- Uncheck all items, click Apply | OK.
- When you’re prompted to restart your PC, go ahead.
Delete Suspicious Startups
For Windows 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista
- Press Windows Key + R simultaneously.
- Type RegEdit and click OK.
- This opens up a new dialog- Registry Editor.
- Locate the following subkey:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- Delete the string named SysMenu.dll (Right click > Delete. In the confirmation dialog that appears, click Yes)
- Locate the following subkey:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- Delete SysMenu.dll string.
- Close Registry Editor.
Rename SMUpdate.dll File
SMUpdate.dll file is located in System32. Rename the file instead of deleting.
- Double click Computer icon.
- Open the following location:
- C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\Maintenance
- Rename the file named “SMUpdate.dll” as “SMUpdate.dll.old”
- Open the following location:
- C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\Multimedia
- Rename the file named SMUpdate.dll as SMUpdate.dll.old.
