Update iTunes
First, show the Help menu, and then update the program by choosing the Check for updates option. Download the latest supported release.

Restore Hosts File Backup
Restore the default command-lines in the Hosts file as it may be the culprit. The original Hosts file is located in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC directory. Your operating system automatically creates a backup at the time of Windows installation, which is named as Copy of hosts or hosts-copy. Overwrite the original file with the backup.
Provide Admin Privileges to Installation Folder
Launch the Folder Properties dialog > Security tab, to customize the read, write access permissions for iTunes app. The default installation location is given below:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
- C:\Program Files\iTunes
Exclude from DEP
Add all Executable Files (.EXE) from the installation directory after choosing to exclude them from DEP Security. To do so, use “SystemPropertiesPerformance” command and then open Data Execution Prevention.
Reinstall iTunes Components
Uninstall the iTunes from Settings > System > Apps & Features. Reboot the computer before initiating reinstallation.
Optimize Services
Perform system optimization with Reginout. Perhaps, some background services/ processes are preventing iTunes from running.
Customize Compatibility
Re-run the iTunes application using Compatibility Troubleshooter from right-click menu options. Disable unsupported features by turning on compatibility mode.
Switch to Mini Player Mode
You may encounter iTunes error 1114 (error 7) when your system is running low on memory. Change the user interface, switch to Mini Player mode. It works with reduced functionalities. Click the Menu icon in the upper left, select Switch to MiniPlayer, or simply press Ctrl + Shift + M keys simultaneously.
Set Default UI Language
Make sure you have chosen “English (United States)” as the default language from General tab in the Preferences dialog. Select Menu > Preferences.
Disable Retrieving Internet Data During Playtime
As a default, iTunes is configured to retrieve CD Track Names from the Internet. iTunes error 1114 (error 7) may occur when it fails to retrieve this information. Uncheck the box labelled “Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet” in the General tab of your program settings.
Delete Backups, Reset Sync History
While using iPhone, iPod and other iOS-based devices, iTunes may backup and synchronize your content. You’re experiencing error as it failed to load a previously saved backup. Reset the synchronization history and delete backups from the Devices tab of the Preferences dialog.
Reset iTunes Store Cache
When you buy new music from the iTunes Store it is stored in C:\Users\%username%\Music\ iTunes\iTunes Media directory. It also saves some files into program cache that are used to speed up the process. Due to corrupt Store cache contents, you encounter issues with iTunes. Reset the cache, reset all dialog warnings from the Advanced tab.
Change Media Folder Location
The iTunes wizard prompts to select your Music folder post-installation. Error 1114 (error 7) may occur when the media folder location is inaccessible or it doesn’t have required permissions to access that directory.
Firstly, make sure the folder location specified in “iTunes Media folder location” text box under Advanced tab is valid.
Secondly, after confirming it is a valid path, check its folder security settings to allow read/ write access permissions.
Thirdly, set the default location by clicking the “Reset” button. If that doesn’t work, click the “Change” button, specify a new location in a different drive/ partition. Do not select any folder in the same partition.
Disable Copying Files to Media Folder
If the error appears while adding new music files to the iTunes Library, iTunes may have failed to attempt copying files to the iTunes media directory. Make sure the box named Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library is unchecked in the Advanced tab.
Disable Music Sharing
iTunes simultaneously starts the Bonjour service to enable sharing music with others. You’re facing this issue due to conflicts with the supporting service by stopping it from Run > Services.msc.
