Change System Registry Settings

  1. Open Registry Editor using “RegEdit” command in the Run dialog box. To open Run, use Windows Key + R keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Now locate the following subkey:
    _LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Select
  3. Double click the string named “LastKnownGood” and copy its value into a Notepad document. It’s a numeric value.
  4. Double click “Failed” string, and replace it with the value you just noted in a Notepad document.
  5. Now double click “Current” string, and write its value to Notepad with an increment of 1. Example: If the “Current” string value is “2”, make an increment of “1” and write “3” into Notepad.
  6. Double click “LastKnownGood” and paste the value that you recently copied.
  7. Exit the tool.

 

Restore System File

Your system file may be corrupted. Restore it using the appropriate command-lines. Boot your computer through the Windows installation disc by configuring the BIOS Setup appropriately. Set the first boot device and second boot device as DVD ROM and Hard Disk Drive respectively, and then save the changes & exit. Now Windows installation wizard shall be loaded as soon as you respond to pressing any key, when prompted to do so. Choose to repair your computer by clicking “Repair my computer” link, and then fire up Command Prompt tool, run below commands respectively:

  • Cd system32\config
  • Copy system system.bak
  • Cd system32\config
  • Ren system system.old
  • Copy system.bak system

 

Perform Disk Check-Up

Check your hard disk for data retrieval issues that can cause 0x0000051 error. To load it, go to Drive Properties > Tools > Check, and then start the actual process.

 

Clean Boot

Disable interferences of all third-party all third party programs and services by disabling both from the Task Manager.
