GTX 1060 is a powerful gaming Graphics card that provides immersive gameplay of the latest high definition games.
It is powered by Nvidia Pascal, which is one of the most advanced GPU architecture available nowadays. The GTX 1060 provides incredible performance on the desktop, laptop, and in Virtual Reality also.
But, no matter how amazing an item this Graphics card is, it comes with a fair share of problems also. Most of its users have asked in online communities about GTX 1060 performing so slow/ underperforming on their computers.
We’ve dug deep into this issue and came up with some suggestions that will help you out. Here it goes then.
Problem 1: GTX 1060 Card not working at all
A user complained on a forum about the Graphics card simply refusing to come to life. They installed a new card and when they tried to boot the system it simply froze at the GeForce logo screen.
Solution: Update BIOS
The solution to this problem lies in updating BIOS, as it is most likely outdated. The PC will work with the old built-in Graphics card in the chipset but not with the new one. A better option is to perform a BIOS update and then see if that solved the problem.
Problem 2: Card not being detected in Windows
Another asked on EVGA forum that they installed a GTX 1060 Graphics card, but the computer surprisingly didn’t detect it at all!
Solution: Perform one of these fixes
Let’s first check if you are on the right path: You have connected the monitor to the Graphics card and getting an image on the screen. The only problem here is that the Device Manager is not detecting the Graphics card.
- Open BIOS and make sure the integrated GPU is turned off. Now check if the PC detects the Graphics card.
- If you have another card available, try to connect it to the same board and see if Windows detects it. The connecting slot may be the actual culprit in this case.
- If you have access to another PC, try to connect this card to that PC and see if it detects the card. The card may be faulty.
Problem 3: Card no working but fans still spin
A user on linustechtips has written that he was trying to bring the display screen closer to him when the screen turned black all of a sudden. He tried to restart the PC but the display didn’t come back, and only the fans of the GPU were working. He connected it to another CPU and tried to turn it on but the GPU didn’t turn on even on that PC.
Solution: Probably the GTX 1060 GPU is dead
If the user has tried everything and the GPU is still not working then it is probably dead. The user should try to see if the video card is enabled in BIOS. Otherwise, the problem is with the GPU. Somehow, during the movement of the screen, the PC electrocuted the GPU.
Problem 4: GPU is running too slow
The games run too slowly while the GPU is enabled, whereas they were performing at their best when the CPU’s built-in GPU was enabled.
Solution: Update drivers
Delete GPU drivers and then install the newest driver from Nvidia’s dedicated section. See if the Graphics card works at full speed once you’ve installed the drivers. Turn on Turbo Boost and recheck if the Graphics card works while you’re gaming. You can also check it with Valley Graphics checking software.
Problem 5: Insufficient cooling
GTX 1060 thermal throttling due to inadequate cooling.
Solution: Reduce burden on GPU
If the GPU is thermal throttling there can only be one reason behind it. Maybe some other small resources are eating up the Graphics resources. Try to uninstall every program that works with the GPU and reinstall everything one by one while checking the GPU’s temperature.
