Change the Decimal Symbol

Your computer shows decimal symbol, list separator and measurement symbols in the format you choose. A Non-Microsoft spreadsheet program, accounting software or any other program might have changed the default decimal symbol.

  1. Type Region in the Search Box on the Taskbar.
  2. Open Region from the Search Results.
  3. This will open up the Region dialog.
  4. Click the Formats tab.
  5. Click Additional Settings.
  6. Click the Numbers tab.
  7. Replace the value of Decimal Symbol with . (Dot)
  8. Click Apply | OK | OK.
  9. Reboot your machine.

 

Change Buffering Policies

You might want to reset the buffering policies. Make sure copying of files buffered is allowed.

  1. In the Search Box on the Taskbar, type RegEdit and open it from the Search Results.
  2. Locate the following subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Policies | Microsoft
  3. Right-click System subkey, choose New | DWORD Value.
  4. Specify CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo as the DWORD Name, press Enter.
  5. Double-click the newly created DWORD; replace its value with 1.
  6. Press Enter.
  7. Quit Registry Editor and then reboot your machine.

 

Enable Update Stack

Another trick which you can apply is to change settings related to the update stack using Registry Editor tool.

  1. Open the following subkey using the Registry Editor:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Microsoft | WindowsUpdate | UX
  2. Double-click IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled and replace its value with 0 (zero). Click OK.
  3. Expand Settings subkey in the same root key.
  4. Double-click UxOption and replace its value with 0 (zero). Click OK.

 

Restore PC to an Earlier Point of Time

Locate a System Restore Point where you remember your PC to be working perfectly fine. The steps to restore are as follows:

  1. Right-click This PC icon on the Desktop.
  2. Choose Properties from the context menu.
  3. Click Advanced system settings link.
  4. Click System Restore under System Protection tab.
  5. When the System Restore wizard opens, click Next.
  6. Choose a Restore Point you intend to apply. Click Next.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions till the end.
  8. Reboot your computer once the System Restore wizard is over.
