Repair hlvdd.dll Error

Users encounter the following error while opening DecoTech Professional 6, Voxware file compression utility, and many other programs:

  • Warning: hlvdd.dll cannot be found

Program installation completes without issues. The error appears when a user intends to open the program.

Reinstall the Program

The first thing I would like to suggest is to uninstall and reinstall the program as specified DLL file is missing. The process of reinstalling the program will re-copy the file to your hard drive. Go to Control Panel, load list of all installed programs.

Restore Missing File

Try to get the file from software publisher instead of downloading it from third parties. Typically, DLL download websites are not safe as they can transmit viruses to your PC. Download, copy the file to following locations:

  • C:\Windows\System32

Register the File

Use the Regsvr32 <FileName> command and restart your PC to re-register the file registration entries. Use Command Prompt with RegSvr32 Hlvdd.dll command.

Try Compatibility Mode

If the program doesn’t work in normal mode, set the compatibility options or use Compatibility Troubleshooter to fix the issue. You can use it from context menu items; or otherwise use Shortcut Properties dialog box > Compatibility tab, whichever you like.

If you’re encountering the problem only after upgrading to Windows 10, choose an earlier Windows version on which the program was functioning properly. This should work.

Update the Program

Hlvdd.dll and other errors may appear post-upgrade. Check the website of the software publisher to avail latest updates that come with a build compatible with your version of Windows.

Check System Type

Which Windows type do you use? Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? Programs have to be installed depending on the system type. A program built for 64-bit versions of Windows wouldn’t work on a 32 bit OS. However, most programs built for 32-bit Windows should work on 64 bit OS without encountering any issues.

You can check the system type and other information using System dialog. To launch System dialog, right-click This PC desktop icon; choose Properties.

Restore System Files

Since DLL files are commonly shared by multiple programs, you may want to conduct a full scan for missing operating system files using a powerful feature called System File Checker. After typing “SFC /SCANNOW” in Run dialog/ Command Prompt; it may ask you to insert the OS installation media to copy the missing file. Even if you don’t have access to the installation media, just conduct a scan to check whether it is the case or not.
