Sims 4 Freezing in PC

Reduce Rendering Using Laptop Mode

Some PCs do not have adequate graphics hardware to smoothly run the game. Due to poor graphics performance the game tends to freeze. Run Sims 4 in laptop mode to avoid unnecessary rendering.

  1. Click the  icon on upper right corner to open Main Menu.
  2. Click Game Options.
  3. Check-up the box named Laptop mode.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Quit the game and reopen it again.

 

Turn On Automatic Updates

Game publisher releases updates frequently. Turn on automatic update feature to fix bugs and performance issues.

  1. Double click Origin desktop icon.
  2. Go to Application Settings menu.
  3. Set Automatic Updates: Enabled.
  4. Click Apply button.

 

Set Windowed Screen

There are two modes- full screen mode and windowed mode. The latter performs better with enhanced performance.

  1. Click the  icon to open Main Menu.
  2. This expands new options. Click Game Options.
  3. Click Graphics.
  4. Set Display Type: Windowed
  5. Uncheck the box named Post processing effect.
  6. Click Apply.

 

Change Game Command-Line Arguments

Make the following changes to game’s command line arguments to check if this solves your problem:

  1. Double click Origin.
  2. Right click Sims 4, select Properties from context menu options.
  3. Insert “-w” (without quotes) at the end of Command-line Argument textbox.
  4. Click Apply.

 

Use CAS Mode

Use the CAS Mode to fix frequent freezes.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + C keys simultaneously.
  2. Type “testingcheats true” (without quotes) and then press ENTER key of your keyboard.
  3. Now press Shift + Left mouse key.
  4. Click a Sim in your household.
  5. Click CAS option.
  6. This loads CAS Mode.

 

Play in Offline Mode

Some users experience less freezes and improved gaming performance while playing Sims 4 in offline mode. This is because online mode uses more bandwidth. It takes time to download game components, user data and information.

  1. Go to the Main Menu by clicking the  icon.
  2. Click Game Options | Other.
  3. Set Offline Mode in subsequent page.

Note: If you’re already offline, a confirmation prompt will appear saying You’re offline, would you like to go online?.

 

Delete Cache Contents

Cache content corruption is another reason for slow game issue. Delete the package files, local thumbnail cache that are accessed during gameplay.

  1. Double click Users folder on Desktop.
  2. Now open Documents.
  3. Open following directory:
  • …\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4
  1. Delete the file named “localthumbcache.package” located in that directory.
  2. Now open Cache sub folder.
  3. Press F3 key, type *.cache in the upper right corner Search Box.
  4. This opens up Search Results. Delete all files that have .cache extension. These are the cache files.
  5. Go back to previous folder now; and open another sub folder named CacheStr.
  6. Delete all contents from this folder too.

 

Change 3D Settings in NVIDIA Control Panel

Scrolling lags are experienced with Sims 4 when V-Sync and Triple Buffering features are disabled. Enable both these features as shown under:

  1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Click Manage 3D Settings link on left panel.
  3. Select Sims 4 game displayed in list. If it’s not displayed, please add it yourself.
  4. Scroll down the page.
  5. Turn on a feature called V-Synchronization (abbreviated as V-Sync)
  6. Enable another feature called as Triple Buffering.
  7. Disable the pre-rendering frames by entering 0 (zero) in the textbox.
  8. Click Apply, exit out of the screen.

 

Reset your Single Sim

For those who experience that Sims or an animation gets stuck can reset single Sim. Resetting it puts itself back and fixes the issues.

  1. Launch the Cheat Window. To do so, press Ctrl + Shift + C keys simultaneously.
  2. Type the following commands:
  • resetsim X Y
  • Remember, X denotes First Name; and Y denotes Last Name.
  1. Press Enter.

 

Reset a Lot

Here are the steps to reset a Lot and fix up the issue:

  1. Go to Edit Town mode.
  2. Select a Lot.
  3. Make sure you’ve entered into Build or Buy Mode. If not, do so.
  4. Now the existing lots will be transferred home.

 

Reset Whole Neighbourhood Using Mod

  1. Use a Mod named Twallan’s Master Controller.
  2. Click on Computer, or the City Hall.
  3. Go to NRaas > MasterController > Town.
  4. Now a confirmation page will be displayed. Click the button named Reset everything.

 

Reset Whole Neighbourhood Without Mod

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + C keys simultaneously to open up Cheat Window.
  2. Type the command given below:
  • resetsim *
  1. Press Enter.
