Google Classroom is a nice addition to Google’s services that has given an altogether new look to the way lectures are delivered in a classroom. It is virtual in nature, of course, and has made the entire process of delivering a lecture, as well as submitting an assignment and getting it assessed very simple and quick.
Akin to the physical classroom, it’s a virtual area that lets teachers manage the documents their students need. You can call it a collaboration tool for teachers and students where teachers can create an online classroom and send invites to students.
What can you expect from this tool?
With the help of this tool, the following activities can be performed:
- Teachers can easily make assignments for students. While creating an assignment, they can also upload the documents that will prove helpful in preparing the assignment. Every time when a teacher uploads the assignments, students get informed via email notification.
- The tool lets teachers grade the assignments without any hassle.
- If the teacher wants to make a quick announcement to the entire class, the tool allows them to type the announcement, which later on gets emailed to every student.
- The online classroom allows teachers to talk about the assignments yet gives room to solve the student’s problem in a virtual space.
- Teachers can effortlessly track the performance of their students.
Where are the documents stored?
All the documents are stored within Google Drive. Whenever there is a need to edit one, teachers can do so in the drive’s app, such as Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.
How to upload videos to the classroom?
The process of uploading a video to the classroom is pretty simple. You merely have to follow a few steps to upload a video to the classroom.
- Download Google Classroom and Google Drive apps on your tablet or smartphone. Note that both apps are available for free. You can also access Google Classroom via it’s website.
- Capture a video using your smartphone or tablet. It is recommended to use the front-facing camera so that the file size is smaller.
- If your video is present inside the camera roll, select it to upload.
- The share button will appear at the bottom left. The share icon for Apple and Android phones won’t be the same. Once you see the icon click on it to share the video.
- Share the video to Google Drive, but be sure to sign into the correct Google account (for which you have enrolled in Google Classroom) and then you can upload the video. This process might require you to be a little patient.
- Once the video is shared, login to your Google Classroom. Now select the assignment you want to add the video to. In order to upload the file from Google Drive, click the Add button. Once the video has been added, make sure that you press the Turn in button.
Final thoughts
It’s not just about sharing files or grading assignments. One feature that makes Google Classroom unique is the interface that has been created keeping the notion of how the teacher and student interaction is carried out in a physical space.
It’s not justified to compare it to the Google Drive experience as the interface offered by Google Classroom shares an in-depth feel of the physical classroom setting.
